Ahhhh....baseball season! There really is no better time or way to enjoy the great outdoors with the greatest sport in American history! Not to mention, you get to watch the Diamondbacks!
Tony Clark may be gone, but that doesn't mean the team won't pick up the slack. Dan Haren was the target of the offseason, and after aqcuiring him during the December 14th trading insanity he is in the rotation to bring some serious hurt to other teams in 2008.
Their record in 07 was 90-72, making them the first team to have the best record in their league with a negative run differential (-20). Three players (Doug Slaten R, Randy Johnson S and Chad Tracy 3B) have sustained injuries. Slaten and Tracy are having knee problems and Johnson is having back problems. Johnson is projected to return on opening day, but the jury is still out on Slaten and Tracy.
Miguel Montero also has a fractured index finger, which was hurt during Winter Ball in December. GM Josh Byrnes believes that Montero will be fine to start off during spring training, but they will most likely go easy on him for a while.
Brandon Lyon will be the closer for the spring season along with Tony Pena in the setup role. Although Manager Bob Melvin believes that Pena has "the right stuff" for the closer position, they're going to try Lyon on for size to see how he does in the position.
The Arizona Diamondbacks first game is set to take place in Tuscon Electric Park in Arizona on February 28 against the Rockies. (Last updated 2/13/08)
